●ニューヨーク・ニューヨーク (「ニューヨーク・ニューヨーク」より)
作詞はフレッド・エッブ、作曲はジョン・カンダー。
フランク・シナトラの歌唱で有名なこの曲。
1977年公開の、マーティン・スコセッシ監督、ライザ・ミネリとロバート・デニーロ主演の、曲名と同じタイトルの「ニューヨーク・ニューヨーク」の中で歌われています。この曲は映画の中で何回か歌われ、ピアノでのメロディーだけも流れたりしますが、終盤近くでのライザ・ミネリによる熱唱は圧巻！！！ ただただ聞き入ってしまいました。
この映画、サブスクにないかなと思って探してみたけど、私の入っているサービスでは見つからず。でも、幸運なことに、大学の図書館に映像資料としてVHSが所蔵されていました。やった！🙌 ビデオテープ、幼稚園ぶりぐらいに操作したなあ。
ちなみになんですけど、「雨に唄えば」で歌われている曲が、この映画でも一曲歌われていて、オープニングの挿入歌メドレーの中にもその曲のメロディーが含まれており、知らなかったのでビックリしました。
●ニューヨーク・ニューヨーク （「踊る大紐育」より）
上記の曲と同名ですが、全然違う曲。
作詞はベティ・コムデンとアドルフ・グリーン（「雨に唄えば」の脚本家コンビでもある！）、
作曲はレナード・バーンスタイン（ミュージカルだと、「ウエストサイド物語」とかで有名ですね）です。
踊る大紐育（おどる だいニューヨーク）は、ジーン・ケリーとスタンリー・ドーネンが監督（こちらもまた、「雨に唄えば」の監督コンビだ！）、
ジーン・ケリー、フランク・シナトラ、ジュールス・マンシン アン・ミラー、ベティ・ギャレット、ヴェラ＝エレンらが出演しています。
踊る大紐育はニューヨークに上陸して休日を楽しむ水兵さんの話で、この曲は、水兵さんたちがニューヨークの港に降り立ってウッキウキで街へと向かう、冒頭シーンで流れます。聞いてるこちらもウッキウキになります。
ニューヨークでロケがおこなわれたそうで、ニューヨークの名所がいろいろ映ります。
ニューヨークを漢字で「紐育」と書くこと、この映画で初めて知りました。
ちなみにドラマの「踊る大捜査線」のタイトルの元ネタの一つは「踊る大紐育」であると、いろんなサイトで見かけました。
さらにちなみになんですけど、ジーン・ケリー、フランク・シナトラ、ジュールス・マンシンの三人組は「私を野球につれてって」というMGM映画に、
さらにケリーとシナトラのペアは「錨を上げて」というMGM映画にも出ています。
「錨を上げて」では、MGMアニメのキャラ（今はワーナーですけどね）の「トムとジェリー」のジェリーが、ジーン・ケリーと一緒にダンスしてます！ めっちゃかわいいので、みなさん見てください。
●サンフランシスコ （「桑港」より）
↓こちらの記事でも書きました「桑港」から、「サンフランシスコ」です。ジャネット・マクドナルドとクラーク・ゲーブル、そしてスペンサー・トレイシーが出演しています。
楽曲「サンフランシスコ」、作詞はガス・カーン、作曲はブロニスラウ・ケーパーとヴァルター・ユルマンです。

雨に唄えばで知った「Would You?」目当てにこの映画を見ましたが、ジャネット・マクドナルドのこの歌の熱唱は素晴らしく、見終わった後はこの曲の方がずっと頭に残っていました。
サンフランシスコを「桑港」と書くのも、この映画で知りました。
利用している音楽配信サービスに、ジュディ・ガーランドが歌っているバージョンもありました！（知ってる方も多いと思いますが、ニューヨーク・ニューヨークのライザ・ミネリのお母さんがジュディ・ガーランドです。）
●ブロードウェイ・メロディー （「ブロードウェイ・メロディー」より）
1929年の、ハリー・ボーモント監督の「ブロードウェイ・メロディ」では、チャールズ・キングが歌っています。
「雨に唄えば」ではジーン・ケリーが歌唱。
作詞はアーサー・フリード、作曲はナシオ・ハーブ・ブラウンです。
歌詞から、ブロードウェイのショービジネスの華やかさや、「明るくなくっちゃ」感に想いを巡らせることができますね。
●Bonjour, Paris! （「パリの恋人」より）
「パリの恋人」という、パラマウントのミュージカル映画で歌われています。
1957年公開、監督スタンリー・ドーネン（このブログで毎度おなじみ！）、オードリー・ヘップバーンとフレッド・アステア主演の映画です。
「Bonjour, Paris!」は、オードリー・ヘップバーンとフレッド・アステアと、ケイ・トンプソン演じる登場人物たちが、アメリカからパリへやって来て観光しまくるシーンで歌われます。
作詞者と作曲者についていろんなサイトを調べてみたところ、確信をもってご紹介することはできず、おそらくの情報になってしまうんですけど、作詞はレナード・ガーシュ、作曲はロジャー・イーデンスです。
この映画、最初の方に、「これからの新時代、女性はピンク色！」ということを提案するシーンがあるんです。
今よりほんの少し前の時代まで、「ピンクは女性の色」というかなり強いイメージが社会に蔓延していたと思うんですけど、「ピンク＝女性」が当たり前でなく、逆に画期的なことだった時代が存在していたんだなあと、すごく心に残りました。
●八十日間世界一周のテーマ （「八十日間世界一周」より）
八十日間世界一周、まだ見れていないんですが、有名なこのテーマ曲は知っていて好きなのでリストに載せておきます。
日本では、サッポロ生ビール黒ラベルの、大人エレベーターのCMに用いられていますね。
作詞ハロルド・アダムソン、作曲はヴィクター・ヤング。（ステラ・アンガーという方も関わっているという情報がネットを検索していると出てきたのですが、作詞なのか作曲なのか、どういう関わり方なのかがはっきりわかりませんでした。ごめんなさい。）
ひとつの場所について歌ってるわけではないですが、アイルランドのダウン県、ニューヨーク、パリ、ロンドンという地名が出てきます。
英作文を練習するため、英文も付けています。英語が得意でないため文法などに間違いが多くあるかと思いますが、ご了承ください。

● Theme from New York, New York (From "New York, New York")
Lyricist: Fred Ebb, Composer: John Kander
This song is famous for be sung by Frank Sinatra.
This song is sung in "New York, New York", released in 1977, directed by Martin Scorsese, Liza Minnelli and Robert De Niro are starring.
This song is sung in the movie several times and there are scenes that its melody of is played on the piano.
It is spectacle when the song is sung by Liza Minnelli powerfully near the end of the movie! I listened to it with rapt fascination.
I couldn't find this movie in subscription service which I'm using. But, very fortunately, my university's library has its VHS. Yeah!🙌 I operated video player for the first time since I was preschooler.
By the way, one song used in "Singin' in the Rain" is also used in this movie and its melody is included in the medley, opening song of this movie. I didn't know about it so I was surprised at listened to this music.
●New York, New York（From "On the Town"）
In Japanese, this song's title is same as above song. (In Japanese, "Theme from New York, New York" is often merely called "New York, New York"). But these are different songs.
Lyricist: Betty Comden and Adolph Green (The pair of screenwriters of "Singin' in the Rain" !)
Composer: Leonard Bernstein (In musical movies genre, as you know, he is famous for "West Side Story")
"On the Town" is directed by Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen. (Once again, the pair of "Singin' in the Rain". They are also directors of "Singin' in the Rain".)
Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Jules Munshin, Betty Garrett, Ann Miller, Vera-Ellen appear on this movie.
This movie is about sailors who land on New York and enjoy holiday. This song is played the opening scene the sailors land on the port in NY and go to the city excitedly. Listeners become also be excited.
I heard that they go to NY to shoot this movie. Many sights of NY appear in this movie.
I learned at first that NY is written "紐育" in Kanji.*1 (Japanese title is "踊る大紐育" Odoru-Dai-New York, it means "Dancing great New York")
By the way, many websites show that "Odoru-Dai-Sousasen"(踊る大捜査線), Japanese famous drama is named after this movie.
By the way again, the trio of this movie's actors, Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Jules Munshin, also appear in MGM movie, "Take Me Out to the Ball Game",
in addition, Kelly and Sinatra appear in MGM movie, "Anchors Aweigh".
In "Anchors Aweigh", Kelly dance with Jerry who is the character of "Tom and Jerry" which is MGM's animation (currently, Warner's animation)! It is very cute scene. Please check it.
●Theme from San Francisco (From "San Francisco")

I watched this movie for the purpose of listening "Would You?" which I knew in "Singin' in the Rain". But after I watched it, "Theme from San Francisco" was more memorable because singing by Jeanette MacDonald is fantastic.
I also learned that San Francisco is written "桑港" in Kanji because of this movie. *1
There is another version sung by Judy Garland in subscription music service which I use! (As many of you may know, Judy Garland is mother of Liza Minnelli appear in "New York, New York".)
●Broadway Melody（From "The Broadway Melody"）
Charles King sings this song in "The Broadway Melody", released in 1929, directed by Harry Beaumont.
Gene Kelly sings it in "Singin' in the Rain".
Lyricist: Arthur Freed, Composer: Nacio Herb Brown.
From the lyrics, I can think about the glamor of Broadway show business and the feeling of "having to be bright".
●Bonjour, Paris! （From "Funny Face"）
This song is sung in Paramount Pictures' movie, "Funny Face".
Released in 1957, Directed by Stanley Donen (familiar in this blog!), Audrey Hepburn
and Fred Astaire appear.
"Bonjour, Paris!" is sung in the scene that the characters acted by Audrey Hepburn, Fred Astaire, and Kay Thompson arrive at Paris from America and they go sightseeing around Paris.
I searched about the lyricist and composer on various websites, but I can't tell you with any certainty, and the information is probable,
Lyricist is Leonard Gersh, and Composer is Roger Edens.
In this movie, close to opening, there is the scene it is appealed "In new era from now, Women's color is Pink!".
I think that the idea that "Pink is woman's color" had taken root in society strongly until a little ago than now.
I was surprised that there was an era in which the idea of "Pink is woman's color" is revolutionary idea rather than common idea.
●Around the World (From "Around the World in 80 Days")
I haven't watched "Around the World in 80 Days" yet, but I know this famous theme song and I like it. So, I list this song.
In Japan, this song is used TV CM of "Otona-Elevator" of Sapporo-Nama beer-Kuro label. ↓

(While searching the internet, I found the information that a person called Stella Unger also involved, but I couldn't find out for sure if she was writing the lyrics or composing the music. I don't know what type of involvement she was involved in. I'm sorry.)
This song doesn't mention one place, but there are Ireland's "County Down", "New York", "Paris", and "London" in the lyrics.

*1 「紐育」、「桑港」：In Japan, currently, we mostly write foreign place name in Katakana. (But we often write Asia's place name, like Chinese place name, in Kanji even today. I think that Japanese people write Beijing as "北京" in Kanji more often than "ペキン" in Katakana.)
But there are many Kanji which show foreign place. Ney York is "紐育", San Francisco is "桑港".
By the way, "America" is "亜米利加". The letter of "米" is used showing America even now. America is often called "米国" and "Japan-United States Relations" is "日米関係" in Japanese.
The same applies to other countries. For example, UK is "英国" because of "英吉利" in Kanji.
The name of country in Kanji is often used even now. The name of city in Kanji is not used much currently.
