「All I Do Is Dream Of You」Let's love songs cut from film① (From Singin' in the Rain)

I am Japanese. I write this blog not only in Japanese but also in English. But I'm not good at English very much, so I think that there are many mistakes in my English. I appropriate your understanding.

I start new series of article that "Let's love songs cut from film".

In this series, I'll introduce you songs which cut from film when the film released but whose sound remain and we can listen on soundtracks and bonus footage of DVD etc.

The first song which I feature in this series is "All I Do Is Dream Of Youfrom "Singin' in the Rain"

There may be some people think that "Did Debbie Reynolds jump out of a cake and sing this song, didn't she?".

But, in addition to scenes that women dancers played by Debbie Reynolds and others sang this song, the scene that Gene Kelly sing this song were also filmed!

After the scene of "All I Do Is Dream Of You" sung by Debbie Reynolds and others, Kathy, acted by Debbie becomes grumpy and goes home.

Don, acted by Gene Kelly goes after Kathy. But Kathy goes away by car. Don is left behind alone.

After this scene, Don smiles with something think, and then the scene changes to a movie studio scene that leads to the "Make 'Em Laugh" scene.

Between this scene change, at first, there was a scene that "Don returns home, and he think of Cathy, and he sings "All I Do Is Dream Of You", the song which she had sung a while ago."!!

But sadly, the scene is cut from finished film.

Sound of singing scene remains. This!↓

Although Cassie and other dancers' singing was full of energy and bright, Don's singing is a sweet, sweet voice with love that feels like heart melting.

Everyone, please try to listen to this YouTube. Isn't it too good? Didn't our heart melting?

If there were this scene in finished film, we can understand easily that Don has fallen in love at the time. And first of all, this song is pretty good.

I can't stop thinking that "Why did you cut this scene, Arthur Freed?"

But he is the man who prevented to cut that masterpiece, "Over the Rainbow" from "The Wizard of Oz".

So, I think there were any reason why this song was cut from this movie.

By the way, there is another song which already recorded was cut from this movie. (You can easily find by web search.)

I want to introduce about this one someday.  Not only sound but also picture of this song's scene remains. So, some cases, the scene is included as a bonus video on the DVD!

If you are interested, please take a look.

There are various versions of the "Singin' in the Rain" disc. So, when you purchase it, please investigate carefully which DVD/Blu-ray include what kind of bonuses and purchase the version you like with your responsibility.

I'll continue to introduce hidden masterpieces songs which were cut from finished films.

See you again!
