I watched 3hours movie after eating Castella

I am Japanese. I write this blog not only in Japanese but also in English. But I'm not good at English very much, so I think that there are many mistakes in my English. I appropriate your understanding.

In April, I went to watch the movie "Oppenheimer" at the theater in Japan. But, the running time of "Oppenheimer" was 3 hours.

There was a big problem. The toilet. I wonder if my bladder will be able to withstand 3 hours (along with the feeling that going to the bathroom will be a nuisance and I might miss out on the scene I want to see)!?

Even I watched "Napoleon" (2 hours and 38 minutes) a while ago, my bladder was at its limit!

When I watched "My Fair Lady" (2 hours 50 minutes) and "Lawrence of Arabia" (amazingly, 3 hours 47 minutes!!), at the movie theater at 午前十時の映画祭*1,
even though these movies had a toilet break called "Intermission"!!

I became worried and researched ways to suppress the urge to urinate. As a result, I found this site.↓(external link to Japanese website)

This web site is "山と珈琲、心の一杯".
This website explains that carbohydrates(sugar)(糖質 Toushitsu) will connect with water in the body, so eating carbohydrate-containing foods can reduce the urge to urinate.
And there are many high carbohydrates foods that can be purchased at convenience stores in Japan on this website.
These were explained in detail and easily to understand (by Japanese text).

This site said that "Castella*2" is recommended because it contain high carbohydrate. So, I bought Castella near the movie theater (7-Eleven's Castella which is mentioned in the article) and tried eating it. After eating Castella, I went to watch a movie.

In conclusion, I didn't feel urge to urinate at all!!

To explain in detail my situation of that day until the movie started,

・Oppenheimer screenings are from after 1:00 pm to after 4:00 pm.
・I tried not to drink much water since morning.
・After 12 o'clock, I ate lunch (one big rice ball with fried chicken bought at 7-Eleven) and ate a pack of castella (3 slices) without a drink.
・Went to the movie theater and went to the bathroom once.
・Perhaps I took too many measures to prevent my urge to urinate. I was extremely thirsty, and I usually buy drinks when I watch movies at the theater. So, I bought a Coke (S size) at the movie store, and took a seat, and had a few sips.
・I still had time, so I went to bathroom once again.

Like this!

For the next 3 hours, even I drank cokes in between, the screening ended without feeling any urge to urinate
It takes about an hour from the movie theater to my house, but I didn't feel wanting to go to the bathroom on the way home. I got home without going bathroom.

I feel that I was taking too many measures to prevent my urge to urinate other than eating castella, such as reducing water intake or eating lunch without a drink.
But when I watched the above-mentioned "Napoleon", "My Fair Lady", and "Lawrence of Arabia", I was also very careful about preventing the urge to urinate other than eating Castella. But by the end of the screening or by the time of intermission in the middle of the movie, my bladder was already full. So, there were some parts where I couldn't watch the movie with relaxed.
I think that it was Castella Power that kept me from going to bathroom for the entire 3 hours this time.

If I had a chance watching a long movie again in the future, I won't take excessive measures to prevent the urge to urinate, such as reducing water intake. I will only increase the delicious and happy process of "eating castella" which may lead me nothing to worry about my bladder.
I would like to test it again whether I can get the very happy result!

The long movie I have already decided to watch is "Doctor Zhivago" (3 hours and 20 minutes 😲), which will be screened at the 午前十時の映画祭 next February! (I think there will be an intermission in this movie)

See you again!

Note
*1:午前十時の映画祭 "Gozen-Juji-No-Eigasai" it means "10AM film festival".

This is the Japanese event that old masterpiece movies is shown in movie theater.

We can watch old various masterpiece movies in many parts of Japan's movie theaters.

In 午前十時の映画祭, foreign movie is shown with Japanese subtitle not Japanese dubbing. So, people who can't listen Japanese well can enjoy movies.

*2: Castella (カステラ)

Castella is popular Japanese sponge cake. It is said that Castella came from Portugal in 16th century. Nagasaki is famous for delicious Castella.
