昔の映画をスクリーンで観た④「タワーリング・インフェルノ」～午前十時の映画祭の思い出～ I watched old movie at the movie theater ④"The Towering Inferno"
去年の夏、午前十時の映画祭で、「タワーリング・インフェルノ」が上映されました。
「午前十時の映画祭」とは、1年間かけて様々な名作映画を、1作品につき1～2週間の間、1日1回ずつ、全国色々なところの映画館で上映する企画です。

「タワーリング・インフェルノ」は、1974年公開、スティーヴ・マックイーン、ポール・ニューマン主演の、高層ビルが火災に包まれる、パニック映画です。
パニック映画、全然見たことなかったんですが、「フレッド・アステアが出ている」という情報を得た、ミュージカル好きの私。
アステアがパニック映画に！？と思って興味をそそられ、さらに、その期間は「午前十時の映画祭13学生半額キャンペーン」の最中であり、
いつもの午前十時の映画祭でもチケットは「1000円」(劇場によって異なります)と安いのに、その半分の「500円」で映画が見られるなんて、どんな映画だろうが行くしかないでしょ、という気になり、実際に観に行って来ました。
ちなみに前回の記事での「アラビアのロレンス」も、学生半額キャンペーン対象作品でした。

3時間47分を500円で、映画館で観れたのは、すごい思い出。
結論から申し上げますと、タワーリング・インフェルノ、めちゃくちゃ面白かったです！！
ミュージカル映画ばっかり観ている私。そりゃ、恋の行方や主人公のピンチなどにドキドキすることはあるけれど、
パニック映画のドキドキは、それとは全然違いました。
それ絶対、後々悪い方のフラグになるやつじゃん！というハラハラ。
火を吹く高層ビルの恐ろしさ。(いったいどうやって撮影してんの！？)
「どうか助かって欲しい」という祈りの連続。
「ああ、あなたも……」という絶望。
人の愚かさ、そして人の素晴らしさ。
165分の映画でしたが、ドキドキしっぱなしでした。面白い！！！
そして、お目当てのアステア。いつものように歌ったり踊ったりせず、脇役として演技に徹していました。
その役は、完全なる善人ではないけれど、憎めない、魅力のあるおじいちゃんという感じで、とても記憶に残るキャラクター。
「踊らないアステア」という、ミュージカルスターである以前に「映画俳優」である彼の魅力を新たに感じることができました。
パニック映画という、全然興味のなかったジャンルの映画の魅力を教えてくれた「タワーリング・インフェルノ」、映画館で観れてすごく良かったです。

午前十時の映画祭 is a project in which a various classic movies are screened in one year at the movie theaters around Japan, once a day during one or two weeks.

"The Towering Inferno" is a panic movie released in 1974 starring Steve McQueen and Paul Newman. This movie is about a skyscraper on fire.
I hadn't watched panic movies much before, but I heard that Fred Astaire is appearing in this movie. I'm classic musical movie's freak.
"Astaire in a panic movie!?" I was interested in this information, and then, it is in period that "Half Price Campaign for Students of 午前十時の映画祭".
Tickets are as cheap as 1,000 yen (depending on each theater) even at the usual 午前十時の映画祭. Further, I can watch a movie in the theater for half that, 500 yen. No matter what movie it is, I have no choice but to go. I decided to watch this movie.
By the way, "Lawrence of Arabia", which I mentioned in the previous article, was also targeted of "Half-price campaign for students at 午前十時の映画祭".

It was precious experience that I was able to watch 3 hours and 47 minutes movie in the theater for 500 yen.
In conclusion, "The Towering Inferno" was really good!!
When I watch musical movies, of course, there are times for me when I get excited about the fate of the love story and the crisis of characters, but the thrill of a panic movie was different.
Suspense that "That must be red flag later!!"
The horror of a fire-breathing skyscraper. (How on earth did they shoot these thrilling pictures !?)
Praying, "Please help him/her".
Despair, "Oh, you too...".
The stupidity of human beings and the beauty of human beings.
This is a 165-minute movie. My heart continued pounding. Great movie!
In addition, Astaire, one reason of I wanted watching this movie.
In this movie, he doesn't sing and dance as usual. He was devoted to a supporting role.
Although the character acted by Astair is not a completely good person, he is a charming old man we cannot hate, and he is a very memorable character.
I was able to feel of Astair's charm, "The great actor who doesn't dance" which I hadn't known.
I found that Astair is movie actor before he is musical star.
"The Towering Inferno" taught me the appealing of panic movies, a genre of movies that I had no interest in before.
I'm so glad I was able to watch this movie at the theater!
